Questions about crowns and bridges
With proper care, dental crowns can last 10–15 years or even longer. The lifespan depends on your oral hygiene habits, your diet, and whether you grind or clench your teeth.
The process is generally not painful. We use local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. You may experience some sensitivity or mild discomfort afterwards, but this typically subsides within a few days.
No — crowns cannot be whitened once they are in place. When we make your crown we match it to the desired shade of your natural teeth, so if you are considering whitening it is best to do it beforehand.
Much as you would your natural teeth: brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and keep up your check-ups. Avoid biting hard objects, and if you grind your teeth consider a night guard.
